Elite FC Louisville Announces Alex Keyzer Memorial College Scholarship

(Jan. 27th, 2022)

Elite FC Louisville announced today, the Alex Keyzer Memorial College Scholarship Program to benefit members of Elite FC.  The club will be awarding one-time scholarships for selected applicants that attend a post-secondary educational institution next year.  When asked what led to this decision that is very uncommon in the soccer club scene, Executive Director Charlie Traughber said the following:

“When we looked at a college scholarship program it was really a three-pronged discussion.  First, we know that only 0.2% of all players will ever play professionally and the percentage that make enough money to support themselves or a family is even lower.  College is a pathway that for most of our players will be a life changing experience.  This is especially true for our first-generation college students that will help change the trajectory in their families for generations to come.

Second, this fits in line perfectly with our philosophy of “player first.”  We know we are the best at putting the player first and this is ingrained in our culture at the club.  If we can help a student/athlete achieve their dream of obtaining a degree it only makes since that we help.  We could use the money to invest in coaches, equipment or facilities, but we would rather invest in the player.  This better fits our mission to create good soccer players, but even better people.

Lastly, we lost a player way too young last year and this was a great way for us to keep Alex Keyzer (2004) in our thoughts and honor his family.  We also believe the scholarship program will allow us a platform to expand in the future and help address other issues our kids face.”

Any player registered with Elite FC and is a Senior can apply for the scholarship.  More information can be found on the Elite FC website ( www.elitefclouisville.com ) and the due date to submit an application is March 25th, 2022.
